The M Group started work in May 2012 in Myanmar with a project called ” Diagnostic Analysis of Tax System and Near Term Reform Proposals”, for the Inland Revenue Department/ Ministry of Finance, Myanmar. This project is ongoing and The M Group is providing subject matter expertise to:
- Reform Tax policy structure and reform of indirect taxes and taxes on natural resources.
- Complete redesign of indirect tax system towards a VAT combined with a specific excise system.
- Complete drafting and implementation support for the new SCT tax regime by 2015-2016 financial year.
- Complete drafting and implementation support, including tax administration capacity development, for the new VAT regime by the 2017-2018 financial year.
